CHENNAI: It ended on a sweet note for Janko Tipsarevic and he was very grateful to Leander Paes for the chance to win his first doubles title. "I worked very hard during the pre-season and the results speak for themselves. It is a disappointment to lose the singles but winning my first doubles title more than makes up for it."
Paes, for whom this was his sixth title in Chennai said that it was a joy to play alongside someone like Tipsarevic.

"We know how good a player he is but here we saw a different side to his game. I played singles before and I know how hard it is to play two finals on the same day. He epitomisies professionalism and he is an inspiration for all budding athletes and young kids everywhere. I wanted him to win the singles and I am glad I could help him end the tournament on a winning note."
In the end it was the right mixture of ability and experience that won the day for the Indo-Serb pair and Tipsarevic was quick to acknowledge that fact. "I never had a partner like Paes who reads the game very well. I might have played my shots but it was he who controlled proceedings. His experience and knowledge of the game, helped me to play my shots better."
Having a partner like Paes also meant that the creases and wrinkles in Tipsarevic's game could also be ironed out, by someone with the experience and know-how. "Paes has been at the top of his game for two decades now and he knows the technical side of the game very well. It means that he is not afraid to question my game and strategy and if there is some problem, he will also voice his opinion."
